Description
Of all our favorite games, this is our number one go-to of all-time. The rules are simple enough for even young kids to understand, but the game still keeps everyone on their toes.

Pro tip: When you’re playing card games with your child, this card holder is a must have for little hands. Your child can hold it to see their cards, or they can set the holder down on the table for a break. (This particular card holder has stood the test of time, as opposed to other card holders we’ve tried!)
Note: The manufacturer says this is for ages 8 and up, but according to several other families (including mine!) most 4-year-olds are ready for the Original and Deluxe Anniversary game, especially if you help them out a bit with the number cards. Most 6-year-olds are ready for Sleeping Queens 2: The Rescue.
From the Manufacturer
Rise and shine! The Pancake Queen, The Ladybug Queen, and ten of their closest friends have fallen under a sleeping spell, and it’s your job to wake them up. Use strategy, quick thinking, and a little luck to rouse these napping nobles from their royal slumbers. Play a knight to steal a queen or take a chance on a juggling jester. But watch out for wicked potions and dastardly dragons! The player who wakes the most queens wins.
Deluxe Anniversary Edition: This edition includes new kings and new queens with special powers, plus sticker sheets – all in a collectible tin.
Sleeping Queens 2: The Rescue: The Pancake Queen, the Ladybug Queen, and a cast of courtly characters return with a new mission: save the kings. Play queens to rescue kings from a parade of perilous predicaments. Find a magical companion to aid your quest, but watch out for Wild Gnomes, Sleeping Willows, and the ever-sneaky Switch Witch! Save the most kings and crown yourself the royal hero.

Cathy Lee –
I bought this game last year at your recommendation. My grandchildren, ages 4-10, just love it. It's their favorite game to play at Grandma's by far. They love the drama of stealing someone's queen or putting her to sleep, with the option of blocking with a dragon or magic wand. What's not to love? The four year old plays with an older partner. I think it's a bit hard to follow for four.
Lindsay C –
A favorite game for our family of 4! Kids ages 4 & 7 love this game and play frequently with each other as well.
Andrea Johnson –
I love that it's simple enough and short enough not to overtax anyone. The characters are delightful and fun to compete for. The incorporation of simple math and memory skills is great for elementary age kids.
Gina Rowley –
My whole family loves sleeping queens, including my son! It is fun, interesting and educational for all of us. Highly recommend!
Beth Maguire –
sleeping queens is a huge fave in our house! our 8 year old loves it! we leave it near the kitchen table so we can play a round or two over lunch. super fun!!
Heather Bowles –
My entire family loves this game! We have a 4, 6, and 10 year old. It’s fun and funny, and just the right amount of time. The younger kids get number and math practice and the older kids and adults try for strategy. Super fun!
Patricia –
This is such a fun game for the whole family. My 4 year old picked it up quickly but there’s so much going on in the game it keeps everyone engaged, even the adults! It’s a great tool for teaching math in a meaningful way and keeping track of rules and cause and effect relationships. My little guy loves being able to steal mommy’s queens. This game usually results in lots of laughter and cheers. I highly recommend this for every family!
Katie Greenwood –
Definitely our family's go to card game! Says 8+ but we have a 4 year old that loves it! The math it teaches is awesome. A must have for family night.
Katie –
My son and I are obsessed with this game. There are a lot of rules but they're easy to remember, and they make the game interesting. It’s exciting to have a chance to steal another’s queen, only to have a dragon get your knight.
Isabel –
We LOVE Sleeping Queens! Kids and adults can play this together and it's so much fun, even if you play it over and over! Teaches kids strategy and addition - you have to agree beforehand if you will collect 5 queens or 50 points. It's a fast game and not boring even if you play one game after another. Best for ages 5 and up.
Sarah Patterson –
Great game for all ages. It is a very unique game that has some fun rules that no other game we have played has. Even our 2 year old enjoys "playing" and loves the pictures on the cards. My 5 year old just told me to rate it 100 stars because it is so awesome!
Elizabeth –
I learned about Sleeping Queens from Kelly at Happy You, Happy Family. We got it for Christmas 2019, and it is our new go-to game. We love that it is a quick game we can play on a weekday night after dinner and before bed. We love that a six-year-old designed the game. Our seven-year-old says his favorite part of Sleeping Queens is "the knights and stealing." Our eleven-year-old says, "It is ingenious. How they came up with the cards to attack and defend." Our one-year-old loves to choose the sleeping queens from the table. It is such a great game, and we all enjoy it! The grandparents love to play it when they come to visit, too.
Ellen Welch –
My 6 year old daughter can play this for over an hour. It is fast and easy to play. We like to steal and block each other from getting our queens. An added bonus is that the queens were named by an 8 year old girl. Go Girl Power!
Nicole Gause –
Sleeping Queens is a great quick game. It is super fun and always gives us the giggles to steal away each other's queens. Me, hubby, and kids (ages 9 and 6) play.
Melissa Street –
I love playing this game with my kids. It’s fun & easy to learn!!
Melissa Street –
I love this game, and so do my kids!! It is really easy to play/learn and a lot of fun!! Highly recommend Sleeping Queens.
Ashley Rawlins –
My girls (ages 5 and 6) absolutely love this game, they love that they can set it up and play together or with me and big sis (who is 13 and enjoys playing just as much as the littles!)
Megan Romer –
We got this game for my daughter at Christmas when she was 6. It was easily learned and quickly became a competition between parents and kids on who could get the most queens. As she got older, she learned to strategize more and look for which queens were more valuable when stealing. We have enjoyed this game for almost a year now, and is still one of our go-to weekly games.
Jessica –
We love this game! I have 3 kids and we started playing when the oldest was in Kindergarten. The littler ones need help with the math, but I love that this game introduces some new concepts and that I can see how their skills improve as they grow. Plus, the artwork is great!
Rebecca –
We purchased this game for my 6 yo middle daughter to have fun learning math and her 2 yo little sister immediately played too! This game is fantastic for children to learn math and numbers and counting without realizing they are learning! It's quick to learn and fun to play but also has great illustrations and queens that my children still like to collect their favorites!
Rachel Plett –
I love this game for a number of reasons. 1) It is simple enough for a 5 year old to play which means 2) the directions are clear and simple! 3) It can be played in less than 30 minutes!
Kelly –
We love this game! I was so surprised and excited to watch my 4 year old play this game. Rules are simple enough and she gets sooo excited to steal the queens! Lol
We enjoy the game, too, so that’s huge.
Linda Sperling –
Fun fun game for all ages. My daughter loved this game. And the adults did too. It helped her with mental math skills and got quite competitive. We would play 3 rounds before bedtime. Because 2 would be a tie. And then she would be satisfied and go to bed happy.
Kim Flowers –
We love this game so much! It’s fun for the whole family, and it’s nice and compact, so we take it places. It’s a game we just don’t get tired of playing!
Katie –
Such a cute game! We love Sleeping Queens and have already recommended it to several other families. My girls (5 and 3) can play it together even without my help (though they don't try to keep their cards a secret). They love waking up the different Queens and I love that it helps them learn math. When we all play as a family, it's even fun for the adults and doesn't take long. It's an easy way to connect with the kiddos and get some great quality time!
Allison –
Our deck of Sleeping Queens cards are so worn and loved, I might need to buy a new pack! Both my kids have loved playing this game. It sneaks in math skills and the artwork on the cards is really fantastic.
Stacey –
This is one of our family’s favorite games! Everyone enjoys playing, from the 3 year old to the 12 year old and us parents too. It’s easy to learn and a lot of fun.
Nancy –
We have been playing this game for 3 years now (my daughter is now 7). We didn’t start with the math we just did pairs and had her show me her cards and I would tell her the equations. Now she can do the full game but would rather play until all the queens are gone than adding up the queens value as she has her favorite queens she tries to find! For a while we HAD to play it every night. It’s still in our rotation but she likes longer games now. Time to get the next kid into it 3.5 and working on numbers.
Shanae –
My 5 and 4 year olds adore this game! We modify the rules slightly for their ages but this is their go to game! They love the pictures of the queens and kings, it is a beautiful set of cards. Very high quality. I love how they are working on strategy and math without even realizing it!
Knous Kristopher –
Great relatively quick game that’s easy to learn and fun for adults and kids together
Lisa –
Sleeping Queen's is a favorite of our family of older kids. It's short, has easy rules, and it's mostly-chance gameplay equalizes everyone's chances. My easily frustrated son can tolerate it because even if you're losing, another round is coming up soon!
Emily –
This is our new favorite game. Our whole family loves it. My daughters play it often and it’s a game my husband and I love also. I don’t embrace all kid games...so that is saying something! Note: grab the upgraded version in the tin. There are extra cards, I believe, which make the game more fun.
Liz Schwab –
This is my go-to birthday gift for kiddos as soon as they are learning addition! So much more fun than learning math facts using flashcards. It has been a favorite in my house for 10 years, and my high schooler is still willing to play with my kindergartener because it is just plain fun. The illustrations are fantastic. Great game, and I highly recommend as a teacher and mom of three!
Megan –
I bought this game for my niece who is four, and it was a huge hit among the cousins at holidays! Even my three year old caught on! Such a fun family game!
VJE –
Sleeping Queens is our go-to for a quick game before bed. It has helped our 6 year old with math. Every time any of us lays down a math problem, we ask our 6 year old what the problem would come out to. We also do subtraction to help incorporate more math. Our 4 year old loves to play this as well, it is great for all age ranges!
Jenny Hedrick –
My kids love this game and so do we! It’s a game that the whole family can play and it helps review simple math equations. My 2 sons and my daughter alike keep coming back to this game.
Holly –
Favorite game! Parents and kids (6 & 8) boys and girls love it. Great for practicing simple subtraction and addition too!
Lisa –
We LOVE Sleeping Queens and Sushi Go!
Jess –
For Christmas based on your recommendations, I gave the kids Sleeping Queens and Ticket to Ride First Journey, and we’ve been playing them ALL YEAR! Can’t wait to add a few more of your recommendations this Christmas!
Meagan P –
We love Sleeping Queens!
Shirley Wong –
Thank you so SO much for your recommendations! We’ve purchased Ruckus, Sleeping Queens, and Stack Up, and my 4 year old LOOOOOOOOooVES these games. Less screen time and more bonding time.
Ann Johnson –
My daughter and I love Sleeping Queens! It teaches them math without them even realizing it – or me, for that matter. I remember my daughter laid down a sequence that was like 1 + 3 + 5 = 9, and I thought “How did you know that…?” Then I realized she just figured it out from doing math in the game. So cool to watch her learn right before my eyes.
