The regular edition of Catan is one of our all-time favorite board games for the whole family, and this kids’ edition is perfect for families with younger kids. The gameplay is challenging enough that adults don’t get bored, but still straightforward enough that younger kids can figure it out.
Kids love the pirate theme and the talking parrot Coco, and they won’t even notice they’re learning strategic thinking skills while having a blast. Forget Monopoly and play Catan Junior instead!
For older kids, you’ll have a blast with the regular Catan edition here. The manufacturer recommends a minimum age of 10 for that edition, but some kids are ready to graduate to the regular edition starting at age 8.

Catan Junior lets younger players experience the world of Catan by introducing a simpler playing style.
The game takes place on a ring of tropical isles – including the mysterious Spooky Island, home of the Ghost Captain. Each island generates a specific resource: wood, goats, molasses, or cutlasses. You can also find gold. You start with two pirate lairs, then build ships in order to expand your network. The more lairs you build, the more resources you may receive. Use your resources to build ships, lairs, or to get help from the wise Coco the Parrot. You can even trade in the nearby market. Just watch out for the dreaded Ghost Captain!
The first player to control 7 pirate lairs wins the game.
